History

No one remembers pastries in Los Angeles before Michel Richard – Lois Dwan, Restaurant Editor for the Los Angeles Times.

Maison Richard, formerly known as Michel Richard Restaurant & Pastry Shop, first opened on Robertson Blvd on February 17th 1977. French pastry Chef Michel Richard performed his culinary magic for over 10 years, until he got the "disease of the restaurateur". He opened his dream restaurants Citronelle, then Central Michel Richard, in Washington, D.C.

In 1987, Huguette Coffyn, long time friend and partner took over the pastry shop and worked along with Michel to maintain the quality and the reputation. Huguette was so dedicated that she almost lived there, coming very early in the morning and leaving after closing, seven days a week.

She renewed her passion along with the relocation and relaunch of Maison Richard Café, Restaurant & French Bakery on Melrose in 2010, and she is as committed as she was then.

Cook and pastry chefs at Michel Richard Inc. are long-time employees and work as a team. Quality and consistency are their commitment.
